Pirosmani
A medium-bodied ruby wine, named after Niko Pirosmani, one of Georgia’s most famous painters and romantic heroes, who lived from 1862-1918. The wine has just a hint of sweetness, and is pleasantly light in alcohol. It is made from the incredibly versatile local Saperavi, grown in the Alazani valley in the Kakheti region in south-western Georgia. The fermentation is stopped by chilling once the wine has reached the right balance of alcohol and sweetness resulting in a soft supple, mellow wine with notes of crushed strawberry and red plums, and a sprinkle of spice. Drink it slightly chilled with cheese dishes, baked ham and pasta with tomato sauces.
