Ojaleshi

Another example of a grape variety unique to Georgia’s long viticultural traditions, here grown in the Lechkhumi zone. The mountainous north of the country has higher rainfall than the south, but has some superb hilly vineyard sites with archaeological evidence of winemaking in the region dating back to Neolithic times. This is a light blood red wine, with distinctive aromas of raspberry, strawberry jam and a twist of white pepper. It’s softly sweet with hints of red fruit, bonfi re toffee, and crushed herbs, but finishes dry and clean. A good partner to fruit cake, almond tart and clafouti.
